I Wanna Putt Cross-Handed

Rory McIlroy was fed up and  had enough.  His putting was killing him, so he decided to go cross-handed in this week's World Golf Championships-Cadillac Championship at T rump National Doral in Miami, Florida.  Why not.  It works for Jordan Spieth (you’ve heard of him), Rickie Fowler (him too), Jim Furyk (17 PGA Tour wins, one major), among others.  What was the result?  Well, it’s a small sample size but Rory was draining putts from all over the Bermuda yesterday, needing just 23 putts (down from 33 the day before) on his way to a tidy score of 65, seven under for the round and leaving him just two shots shy of the leader, last week’s winner Adam Scott.  We will see if this is the permanent answer to McIlroy’s recent putting woes, but the results for one day are impressive.

I’m not sure if Joey Ramone was a left-hand low kind of guy, but his inspiration for the Ramones’ most popular song, i.e., the rigors of constantly being on the road for gigs, seems similar to the rigors of the travel requirements for the PGA Tour (minus the sex, drugs and rock and roll, of course.  At least I think.)  So with apologies to the Ramones, let’s hope the Boy Wonder can succeed cross-handed going forward and avoid the need for sedation.
