Phil Mickelson, he of FIGJAM fame, recently is the subject of stinging allegations concerning lewd, abusive and adulterous behavior in several media outlets, particularly in a detailed report in Yahoo Sports, here. What had been a Hall Of Fame career on the LIV downslope has now crashed headlong into the professional golfing lodge at the bottom of the hill.
The allegations are frankly horrendous, particularly considering the length of time during which Mickelson’s behavior allegedly occurred, and the damage done to his personal relationships.
Two further thoughts;
1. Once again, a courageous woman has spoken out regarding abusive behavior by men.
2. And shame on the professional golfers wall of silence. According to the Yahoo Sports article, Mickelson’s behavior was common knowledge by several professionals in the past; no one yelled “fore’ when it really mattered.
One more thing. Mickelson joined the CBS broadcast booth after he completed his the third round of the 2020 PGA Championship at TPC Harding Park. Mickelson spent over an hour in the CBS broadcast booth alongside Sir Nick Faldo and Jim Nantz, delivering commentary along with the two broadcasters. Mickelson opened his interview with a double-entendre joke that went right over Sir Nick’s head. Turns our, it was a clue to the behavior described in the revelatory Yahoo Sports article. And if you watch the whole segment, it seems clear that Faldo had no love lost for Phil. The temperature in the booth was frosty, to say the least.(You can see the icicles dangling on Nantz's forehead, sitting between the two golfers.
So long, Phil. We truly hardly knew ye.
