While My Tee Ball Gently Leaks

George With The Other Beatles
The other day I stumbled upon a video of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony for George Harrison as an individual artist in 2004.   Harrison’s solo career is arguably the best of all the Beatles, with his All Things Must pass triple album one of the best albums of all time, Rolling Stone Magazine’s ranking of 433rd notwithstanding.  (What does Rolling Stone know anyway?)  The song selected for the jam tribute at the end of the ceremony was Harrison’s White Album classic, While My Guitar Gently Weeps.  As usual the lineup was stellar, including Steve Winwood, Jeff Lynne, Tom Petty, Harrison’s son Dhani and shortest but not least, fellow 2004 Hall inductee Prince.
Purple Reigns

I saw Prince in concert in DC in August 2004, and it simply was one of the best shows ever.  He was phenomenal.  But what was most amazing was his guitar playing.  He strapped on the electric guitar for a section of the concert and he was channeling Hendrix.  If you don’t believe me check out the video here. The song is one of the greatest rock songs ever written, the musicianship as you might expect is exceptional, but when Prince takes over halfway through the song, you will be blown away. If you feel so inspired, sing along with the lyrics below.

WHILE MY TEE BALL GENTLY LEAKS

I look at you all see the club face that’s open
While my tee ball gently leaks

I look at the green and I see it needs sweeping
Still my tee ball gently leaks

I don't know why nobody told me
How to extend my arm
I didn’t know that I could control it
I fought to hold it true

I look at the ball and I notice it's turning
As my tee ball gently leaks

Many lessons I take, I must surely be learning
Still my tee ball gently leaks

I don't know how to be supinated
Or to be pronated too

I don't know how my weight was shifted
I just don’t have a clue

I look at you all see the club face that’s open
While my tee ball gently leaks

I look at you all

Still my tee ball gently leaks
